Is it safe to color over 8 week old highlights?

I have my hair highlighted and its been about 8 weeks. They are blonde and chunky with the rest brown and I want to go back all brown. The highlights are only on the top portion of the head. Is it safe to color with an at home dye? I do not want to go to the salon and pay 100 to get it colored. Any help would be appreciated.Is it safe to color over 8 week old highlights?
Yes it's ok....... but when you go to get the hair color don't get a darker brown than your natural brown... get as close to, or one shade lighter than your natural color.......because the bleached streaks will grab color faster that your natural hair and you could come out with a bunch of chunky brown stripes....I would section off only the top portion and dye only that part. Use a shade or two lighter than your natural color it will look much more natural..............Don't get any ash colors it could make your steakes kind of green....Good Luck...Is it safe to color over 8 week old highlights?
This question reminds me of a friend I have that has the same hair... She gets blonde highlights chunky then dyes her hair back to brown. She comes out with RED highlights. What will happen is that the red in the brown coloring will attach itself to your blonde highlights you will have a strawberry blonde highlight then. and you will not be happy. If you dont want to go to the salon at least go to a beauty school and let them do it. Im sure if you go to the salon and just have them color the top of your hair where the highlights are at they are not going to charge you full price. Check around so you will be happy when it is done.
I don't know if its safe but it might not be healthy for you hair.why pay 100 or pay anything for at home dye when you got it high lighted?You could wait for the highlights to go out before you dye it.I don't see why you have to high light and dye you hair when you already have a natural nice color.

Yes it's fine. Just don't do it often. Home dyes are okay, but dying in general dries hair out.
