If your going color wise, I would say a light blue or purple. That's what I do with my brown hair. If your talking normal hair, then a bleach blonde would look good.

I am naturally a dark blonde, but about a few months ago I had my hair highlighted with a light blonde and a medium dark brown. So therefore I had my natural color, a light blonde, and brown all in my hair. it wasn't choppy looking, it actually all flowed so it looked very good. Everyone likes my hair but I wanted change. When you go in to get it done, ask the stylist for her opinion. She can tell you what will look best with your skin tone- that's a really inportant factor. With dark brown hair (which is what I have) golden tones are generally a winner. Make sure they're not brassy- you will probably need a toner, which can easily be applied after the highlights are finished and your hair has been washed. Depending on how fast your hair lifts (the color lightens) it will determin the color you end up with. If the stylist uses bleach, you can achieve blond highlights and it will lift the fastest. If she just uses color to lift, you can achieve golden brown highlights or dark blond highlights, which is really pretty. I always have my stylist use Redken ';double blonds';- it's a good product and it leaves your hair really soft and silky.





Remember, if you opt to use bleach, it will damage your hair more than just using color. That hair will stay bleached until you cut it off, even if you color over it. Unless you want blond highlights, I would stay away from bleach. But that's just me :) Have fun!!What color of highlights should i put in my hair?

Bleached hair is not colored hair. Coloring hair adds pigment


Bleaching the hair strips the pigment out. What ever color you have left from bleaching is your natural color minus pigment.





When using a remover it is for removing color and as stated above Bleached hair is hair that has been stripped of color.





If you put a color remover on your hair you will only further damage your hair





The best suggestion I can give is to tone the Bleached hair back to your natural hair color or to a color that has an ash base tone





The ash base tone will conteract the brassiness and cool it down to a natural highlite. Try a lever 09 ash or 10 ash for blonde highlites





or just get a color that is the same as your natural Color





OR go to a professional before your hair breaks off!
Don't use a color remover, you'll only make it worse. Simply use a Demi color in your natural level (Darkness) and color over it. You may still see some of the underlying copper pigmentation but it shouldn't be too bad.

so get a honey or a lighter shade of brown by like 3 or 4 shades lighter.





The thing though is that it will make your face glow a little more because it won't be an awkward shade. The more natural it looks, the better...because it will just work better with your skin tone.

i've dyed my hair over ten times, and i had highlights before i dyed my hair using colorpulse.i used the plum shade though. that was the last time i used it.





the thing is, even though it says that it'll wash out in eight days, mine wasn't fully removed for three months. your highlights will probably be a little lighter than the rest of your hair after you dye it.





if the color stays in for longer than you'd like, wash it by mixing baking soda into your shampoo. that removes hair color really well after a few washes.

I'm afraid a bit of extra colour wont really help it looking flat on top. If it's really short you could get a root perm, however that only really works on bob-length hair (according to my hairdresser anyway).

Yes it's ok....... but when you go to get the hair color don't get a darker brown than your natural brown... get as close to, or one shade lighter than your natural color.......because the bleached streaks will grab color faster that your natural hair and you could come out with a bunch of chunky brown stripes....I would section off only the top portion and dye only that part. This question reminds me of a friend I have that has the same hair... She gets blonde highlights chunky then dyes her hair back to brown. She comes out with RED highlights. What will happen is that the red in the brown coloring will attach itself to your blonde highlights you will have a strawberry blonde highlight then. and you will not be happy. If you dont want to go to the salon at least go to a beauty school and let them do it. Im sure if you go to the salon and just have them color the top of your hair where the highlights are at they are not going to charge you full price. Check around so you will be happy when it is done.

I let my 12 year old put in temporary pink highlights one year for her birthday. The school sent her home and said the hairstyle was too disruptive. She was not allowed back until the color was gone. My advice is to let her wait until high school. ';Standing out'; too much in elementary school is never a good idea. Even if the school okays it, it may make her a target with her peer group.

You could try a temporary dye like Streekers. You can apply it, let her wear it for a day or two then wash it out.
I highly recommend something temporary that can be removed for formal occasions and school.





There are many products to temporarily turn hair pink that wash out. They have special gels and hair sprays that you can use to add color that shampoo right out. Also you can hair clips with fake pink wig hair that you pin in your real hair, and pink extensions that you can later take out.

Are at-home highlighting kits for colored hair stronger than those for uncolored hair?

I purchased one for color treated hair and it did nothing! My hair is colored a honey shade to cover a few grays. I'd like to add some lighter highlights and I'm thinking of trying the highlights for uncolored hair hoping it will be stronger. I want to do it myself since the last time I let a salon do it I came out looking like a zebra and my scalp was burned! If I do it myself at least I can rinse it if it starts to burn or sting.Are at-home highlighting kits for colored hair stronger than those for uncolored hair?
My hairdresser says it's more harsh to color your hair than it is to relax it. Personally I think they are just as bad and I would leave the color up to a professional!!!Are at-home highlighting kits for colored hair stronger than those for uncolored hair?

I my self know how to do highlights and i find now that the store bought highlight kits are okay but there not the best ...What i suggest is to go to a beauty supply store such as sally and buy this by Miss Clairol its call 7 stage its easy to use it comes in a 2oz bottle and then you need to buy to activator crystals then the cream developer works great and can be use on the scalp ...when you use any bleach make sure its a on scalp bleach if you don't want a burn...good luck
i would definitely not try to do it yourself. if you go to a salon, ask for a master colorist...or one who has been working with hair color for at least 3-5 years. you best bet is to tell them exactly what you want and exactly what you don't want....communication with your hair stylist is the #1 most imoportant thing! and always make sure you are comfortable with this stylist before she/he does anything to your hair! i am a cosmetologist...so i am just letting you know my professional opinion. best of luck in your search!!
no. it's all the same. but at the salon they use a special kind of coloring. and the stylist probably didn't know what she was doing and left it in way to long.
Highlighting kits are bleaching kits, and haircolor won't lift artificial hair color, for instance you can't buy a shade lighter than what you have and expect it to do anything. Try the bleach again, but this time wait longer to get past the strong yellow stage your hair will go through, it's a tough one. I usually put heat to the bag on my head with a hairdryer but I'm a professional hairdresser and that requires close attention, only do that if you're sure you can differentiate between blonde and white, cause the white will fall apart on you. But, trying to get past that yellow stage does take some patience, and if your hair color is very resistant you may have to do two applications.

at home kits are always stronger than the ones used at a salon. especially for your hair since it is not a dark colour you do not need a lot of strength. It will be much more damaging since it is made for every type of hair. The colour is a little bit stronger if you are using a formula for coloured hair. And you shouldn't be experiencing much burning at all if your highlights are not applied directly to the scalp (generally they are not). I suggest doing cap highlights. There will be less chance of messing it up, the colour is not applied directly to the scalp and it's easy to do and you can have the desired amount you would like. Good luck.

I wouldn't make too many changes until you get an agent (either modeling or talent). Once you get signed, they will decide for you which color will work.

Is your natural hair colour not enough of a contrast? Maybe you could get the underneath layer of your hair dyed a darker colour but only like maybe 2 shades darker than your natural. I have dark brown hair and its really dark, and i called my hair salon yesterday and i told her i wanted blonde foils(highlights) throughout my hair, and she said that my hair is so dark that it would turn out ither a golden blonde or a carmel color, but i dont want it to look cheesy, and i really dont want to waste my money on something ill hate,cause i have really thick hair and its not cheap. would keeping the bleach in longer help? or would it like fry my hairI have dark brown hair, what color highlights?

Go to a beauty supply store and buy a rinse. Ask the person in the store for a rinse not black it will make your hair an awful color. A rinse is easy to put in your hair. It is not permanent color it will just tone down the blond. Clairol has some you might like. Remember to only buy one that is not permanent. Read the box carefully. this will last a while depending how often you wash your hair. this should help. start off you will have to eventually grow out the highlites...when highlighting you have just removed all the pigmentation....to reverse it you would have to use a filler before putting in a color...then only suggestion is to see a stylist who could do this for you....

Not at all! Stay close to your hair color though, or it will look too stripy. If your skin is dark it will look especially good. Gradually you can go darker and darker until it is to the pigment you want. Good Luck!

If your hair is blond, I m assuming you had it bleached/highlighted, had the natural color removed.


Since your hair is, as you say, darker than the box color, the box color will probably not make a difference on your hair, you will not be able to see it as it is lighter than the color you have now.





Now if, for instance, the box you have is actually a bleaching kit, to make your hair lighter, I would skip that and allow the professionals to always handle the bleaching/highlighting. Too easy to ruin your hair with bleaching products.

But, what I don't get, is I bought a Very light blond hair dye for afterwards, and it ended up bringing my hair back to dark brown. as far as i know there isnt any product you can use to strip colour..unless you go to the hairdresser and get all your hair colour striped then redyed....i wouldnt try stripping your hair colour at home..it could be disasterous

Im a hairdresser and my advice is to go to a salon and get as much of tho crappy blonde cut off as you can handle then ask them to tone the blonde to blend it all together. Honestly tho, its not good for your hair to keep dying it so I recommend just growing it out (which just means cutting it all off over a period of time). Good luck

pick a color that is 1 level darker than your natural color. you may have to do it for a while because when you bleach your hair you remove all of the pigment in your hair which leaves no molecules for the new color to grab thats why it fades out so quickly

actually in my opinion i think highlights look better with brown hair or black hair...so dark hair look better with highlights...no, it is not hard to do...my hairstylist is about to highlight my hair honeyblonde or dark blonde but i have black hair and he said it wasn't a hard job...just have to leave it in there until it turns the color you want:)

I suggest brown, definitely not blonde. You said you have blonde hair, so what's the point? Plus, dyed blonde hair can turn green in chlorine. My cousin dyed her hair blonde, and we went swimming, and when we got out her hair was bright green. She had to get 3 malibu beach treatments to get it out, and it's been over 6 months and in the right light you can still see the green. So like I said, I don't recommend blonde highlights.

Yes. it went horribley wrong and my hair went orange. Keep away, keep well away!
Yes, I know used this product a couple of time on myself and a couple of Friend's hair. All have been pleased with the results and I would defiantly use it again. But if your having doubts do a strand test before trying vast amounts of your hair you then see if you have any reactions and a sample of what the result could be like.

From my experience I would not go any lighter that 2 shades lighter than you natual color. That is if you want it to look natural which for a color virgin (lol, thats what you are) is best. I would use a golden blond or a natural blond for the highlight. And you might also want to start out with peek-a-boo highlights which are random and will look more natual.
You do not want anything lighter than a light brown, it will make you look...kind of cheap, sorry :-/





Your skin is probably more on the warm side if you're tan and look best in warm colors, so reds, coppers and browns would look really nice with your coloring.

How would I go about pre-lightening highlights and then coloring them to two different colors?

Basically, I'm going to be putting four colors in my friend's hair tomorrow. light and dark butterscotch, very light golden blonde and dark honey blonde on naturally light ash brown with some natural dirty blonde highlights. I'm going to need to pre-lighten for two of the colors and then dye the pre-lightened hair different colors and I was just wondering how I would go about doing that. I'm assuming your using a cap because it would be easy and simple to do with foil. With a cap thought you will have to lighten then color one color...then do another cap and lighten and color then. You'll have to do each pre lighten color one at a time.

I don't know about the red, but the bronze sound nice! Blonde and red just doesn't seem like a good mix to me, i would definitely go with the bronze.

red tones look good with fair skin, but the do tend to bring out freckels more. if i were u i would go for an bronze ash highlite. that would look hott!!!

Brown color is a filler. It will grab the color. You will possibly end up with two shades of brown. But it should be suttel.
It would probably ';grab'; the dark brown color and look very ';muddy'; looking. If you are trying to match your natural color, I would not use anything too dark. On the other hand if your hair is over processed (bleached out) then the haircolor may not hold at all, or turn an odd color, (greenish gray). If you are worried about this, I would go to a professional.

Depends on the quality of the dye. If it's cheap and poorly applied, it could turn your blonde hair green. Which could look cool, but I don't think that's the look you're going for.

Go to a colorist that you know has a good rep, and tell them what you're looking for. They will suggest a color combination that's perfect for you.

I guess that sort of depends on your skin tone, and how dark your hair is to begin with. I would say bright red hightlights and light blonde hightlights.

Depends if you want to be lighter or darker. If darker the burgundy and purple colours are great. If lighter lots of golden blonde highlights. You could have a combo of caramel, gold and lightest blonde. Whatever you like.
I would say, dark blondish highlight, keep them thin; don't get those big sections beause they sometimes look taacky against brown hair. If you do a nice golden dark blonde; your hair will look sunkissed and very natural.

How long after coloring hair can I get highlights?

I just colored my hair on Tuesday night, and I would like to highlight my hair to break the color up a bit. I want to get it done proffesionally, but was wondering how long I should wait, even going to a pro, before getting my hair highlighted? My hair is rather healthy and I take great care of usually, this is probably a one time event. Whats the soonest I could do it, and when would it be safest? I will also cut my hair the same day to keep it healthy.How long after coloring hair can I get highlights?
You can highlite your hair the very same day! When you color your hair darker you are adding pigment to your hair. This is not usually very damaging to your hair depending on wich product you use. When you highlite your hair you are taking out the natural pigment. which can be damaging but if you are going to a pro, they will know when to take the color so it does not damage your hair. You will be suprised at how well your hair will style once you highlite it! If you are worried about damage have the stylist do a diamond foil on the top and sides this will look like you highlited your whole head when in reality you only highlited the top and sides. I'm a hairdresser, and as long as your hair is healthy you can highlight it as soon as the same day.
As long as your hair is healthy and you get a good moisturizing/conditioning treatment afterwards you can get the highlights as soon as you want. I'm a hairdresser and I do single process color with highlights on the same day a lot.
i tell my clients to wait two weeks and to condition alot with biolage conditioning balm, hint rinse all cond out with cooler water, it closes the cuticle down over the conditioner molecule to let the cond work form the inside out, good luck and i think you are doing the best thing by going to a pro, good luck hon
I normally wait about a week, especially if you say your hairs in good condition. I color mine at home a reddish blonde, then have a pro. highlight real blonde thru out. It comes out good.
