What color should I highlight my hair? (Pics)?

So I was thinking of highlighting my Hair kinda like a Dirty blonde or gold. What do you guys think? My Hair color is kinda like a darkish Brown, but in the sun it looks really light. I've never dyed my hair so I was wondering what Color of highlights I should get.
